Top 14 Champions Clermont Auvergne have revealed a brand new European jersey that the French aristocrats will wear as they seek to add the Champions Cup to their trophy cabinet this season. The new shirt is a striking contrast to the ultra-clean home and away shirts that Clermont have worn this season, and also sees a return to the black European shirt after going with dark blue in 2016/17.
The pattern on the new shirt bears more than a passing resemblance to the topographical pattern we saw on the brand new Wales shirt that we showed you yesterday (coincidence that they were launched on the same day? Doubt it), but the theme here is apparently different.
As you might be able to tell by the fiery backdrops of these promo images, the graphic is supposed to represent an errupting volcano, at least we think it does anyway… our French isn’t brilliant.
Regardless, it’s certainly a lot more unconventional than Clermont’s other shirts this season, and you’ll be able to check it out for yourself when they wear it to host Northampton Saints this weekend.
