The Welsh Rugby Union has launched a brand new Wales home shirt from Under Armour that the national side will wear for the next two seasons.
The shirt replaces the previous design that Wales have worn since before Rugby World Cup 2015, and sees a return to a more clean and classic look.
The Welsh gold trim that proved so polarising at the old shirt’s launch has gone, while the secondary darker red colour remains, but only on the tip of the sleeves and on the collar. The shirt also sees the first appearance of the new main sponsor, Izusu.
It might seem like a plain red shirt but on closer inspection you can see a sublimated pattern on the shoulder that depicts the topography of various places around Wales – meaning that the shirt is literally ‘woven with the fabric of Wales’. The way that the jersey fabric is cut means that, according to the WRU, each jersey will be unique – a seriously cool touch.
Wales will wear their new home shirt for the first time in their opening Under Armour Series match against Australia – keep an eye on Rugby Shirt Watch for our full review soon.
