Bristol Bears have confirmed their widely anticipated sponsorship deal with English sportswear institution Umbro. The news was first reported back in February, but following on from England’s announcement of their deal with Umbro last week, Brisol have now confirmed that they’ll be wearing the double diamond next season as part of a “long term” partnership.

Since 2014, Bristol have been using kit made by their in-house Bristol Sport brand, but the partnership with Umbro has been agreed in order to, “push on to the next level”.

“We are very proud of the kits that Bristol Sport have produced, over the past six years. Since the Bears rebrand, the innovation shown in designing and creating the team’s jerseys has led to record sales.” said Bristol Sport chairman and Bears director Jon Lansdown.

“It was important for us to maintain that individual appeal, but also to push on to the next level, which is why the partnership with a globally recognisable brand like Umbro is a great fit.”

Umbro will be providing all on-field, training and off-field for the Bears men’s, women’s and academy teams going forward, though it’s not yet clear if other Bears merchandise will still be produced under the Bristol Sport brand.

“We have stated our intention to credibly support rugby through our partnership with England Rugby. Joining forces with Bristol Bears; an exciting club, on a journey to great things, complements this on a domestic and regional level,” said Sam Lucas, Head of Sponsorship at Umbro UK.

“At the same time, the partnership helps us to deepen our connection with the sport, its fans and the wider rugby community. The club’s rich history echoes our own. Over the years we have created elite level products and are looking forward to bringing this experience to bear through our relationship with the club.”

Bristol’s new Umbro kits will be revealed at a later date, keep an eye on Rugby Shirt Watch for all the latest kit news as it happens.
