The Welsh Rugby Union has followed on from the launch of its new senior men’s and women’s team jerseys with a new ‘Pathway’ jersey, which will be worn by the Wales Sevens team (if and when that programme resumes) as well as its age-grade sides.
Like the senior jerseys the home is of course red and the away black, but both jerseys have a strong 80s football kit vibe thanks to the presence of a pinstriped pattern that runs across the shoulders (and also down the side of the shorts).
The retro football shirt look is completed by a crossover collar with a single pinstripe around the edge, which is also reflected on the sleeve cuffs.
The most visible place where we saw the Pathway jersey in the past was the World Rugby Sevens Series, but with the 2020/21 season currently up in the air and the WRU having announced that the Sevens programme would be suspended as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, it’s likely that U20s and other age-grade matches will be our best chance to see these shirts on the field.
