Saracens have announced a multi-year kit deal with high-end sportswear brand Castore, which will see the newly promoted Premiership club’s men’s and women’s teams become the first rugby union side to wear the rapidly rising UK brand’s apparel.

The deal with Castore, which Rugby Shirt Watch first reported back in November 2020, will see the club’s second period with Nike end – the club partnered back up with the US brand in 2018 after their BLK Sport deal collapsed. According to SportPro, the deal with Castore will net Saracens around £200,000 a season.

Castore was founded in 2015 by sporting brothers Tom and Phil Beahon in 2015, with the aim of competing with the big sportswear brands thanks to patented fabrics and advanced technical engineering, and high-end prices to match.

Initially focussed on gym wear, athletics, tennis and golf, the company is backed by a consortium of high-profile private investors, including Sir Andy Murray, and in January received significant investment from billionaire brothers Mohsin and Zuber Issa (the owners of supermarket chain Asda) which has enabled the brand to aggressively expand its profile in the sports sponsorship world.

Since 2020, Castore has become the principal kit partner for Rangers FC and Sydney Roosters in the NRL, while this season the brand has added Premier League clubs Newcastle United and Wolverhampton Wanderers to their portfolio. Saracens are Castore’s first rugby union team, but have also welcomed England captain and Saracens star Owen Farrell to their ranks.

Ospreys were rumoured to also be in talks with Castore at one point, but the Swansea region announced a deal with another brand starting to make waves in rugby union – Umbro.
