As the first weekend of Super Rugby 2020 kicks off, the five New Zealand Super Rugby teams have revealed the striking new jerseys that the Crusaders, Blues, Highlanders, Hurricanes and Chiefs will be wearing throughout this coming season.
All five jerseys are part of a new range called ‘PRIMEBLUE’ by Adidas, and is made from recycled Parley Ocean Plastic – a material that Adidas has used previous for All Blacks training gear – and each jersey is designed to reflect the natural environment of each area.
The Crusaders design is inspired by the braided rivers that flow down from the Southern Alps providing the backbone of the Canterbury region; the Hurricanes shirt reflects the high winds of the Wellington area, and the common sight of wind turbines in the area. The Highlanders design is designed to represent the ocean on the southern Fiordlands, while also putting a new spin on the Highlanders tartan.
The Blues shirt is the only white design of the range, but also features a water-like interpretation of the Auckland Harbour Bridge, and finally the striking blue Chiefs away design is inspired by water, and the waterways, rivers, lakes and oceans which flow from the contributing clubs and regions.
The new jerseys will be worn by the New Zealand teams throughout this Super Rugby season, with the Hurricanes having debuted theirs against the Stormers on Saturday.
