NEWS: Munster Rugby reveal 2019/20 Adidas Home & Away Shirts

Munster Rugby have become the first European top-flight team to reveal their brand new 2019/20 home and away shirt, which the Irish province will wear throughout their forthcoming Guinness Pro14 season.

The new jerseys both have an unconventional pinstripe design that is said to be inspired by the famously passionate crowds at Thomond Park.

The home shirt features an interesting two-tone motif around the bottom of the shirt which we think is supposed to represent the blocky level meters of a multi-channel sound recorder.

In the case of the home shirt, the shape of the levels apparently reflects the noise made by the Thomond Park crowd after kick-off

The away shirt is dark blue with a similar pinstriped motif featuring a red fade on the top and back, plus rec collar and sleeve cuffs.

The sound wave pattern here, apparently, is designed to represent the “silence in Thomond Park leading up to kick-off”.

Both of these new shirts feature a similar low-profile collar to the new All Blacks jersey revealed last year, while the position of the Adidas stripes remains over the shoulder, but at a more jaunty angle.

Munster generally work on a two-year cycle for home shirts, so expect to see the home jersey worn until 2021, while the European jersey that was launched last season is expected to get another season of use. The province generally rotates away shirts every season.

The new Munster gear is available exclusively from Life Style Sports, keep an eye on Rugby Shirt Watch for all the latest 2019/20 Guinness Pro14 jersey launches.

  1. Home shirt is nice, good to see a return to white shorts. The away jersey is too much like a Barcelona soccer top.
