Justin Tipuric’s scrum cap might be the most famous and recognisable headguard in World Rugby, but the Ospreys and Wales flanker’s iconic look is about to change, as he dons a brand new model as part of his new deal with apparel supplier Canterbury.
Tipuric is never seen on the rugby field without the instantly recognisable bright blue headguard – which is coloured in tribute to his boyhood club Trebanos RFC – and it has been with him as the 29-year-old became one of the world’s best flankers for Ospreys, Wales and the the British & Irish Lions.

That scrum cap – which is believed to be an old Canterbury Ventilator model sans CCC logo – has served the 29-year-old well, but as part of his deal to become an ambassador for the brand, he’ll soon be donning the company’s new (and yet to be revealed) Reinforcer headguard.
Tipuric will wear his new scrum cap as the Ospreys look to secure their Champions Cup place against the Cardiff Blues at Judgement Day, and will continue to wear it throughout Wales’ summer preparations for Rugby World Cup 2019 in Japan.
“I grew up as a young child wearing Canterbury, so I have a really strong connection with the brand,” Tipuric said of the partnership. “Through their work with the British & Irish Lions and my region, Ospreys, I’ve seen first-hand the quality of the products they produce, so it was a natural fit for me.”
No details have yet been revealed about what Tipuric’s new headguard will look like, but we’ll be surprised if it’s not bright blue – stay tuned to find out.
