The Gallagher Chiefs have revealed a limited edition 2019 Heritage Jersey, which they will wear for this Friday’s Super Rugby contest against the Hurricanes at FMG Stadium Waikato.

The new shirt pays tribute to the distinctive design that the Chiefs wore in the inaugural 1996 Super Rugby season, and sports a similar mix of red, white, gold and black hoops of various thicknesses and styles.

As well as celebrating the Chiefs heritage, sales of the limited edition individually-numbered jerseys will also raise funs for the Chiefs Rugby Club Alumni programme, which was founded in 2017 to raise fund to support former Chiefs players who have fallen on hard times or need financial assistance.

“It pays tribute to all those that have played a part in building this club,” said Chiefs second-row Brodie Retallick of the Heritage shirt. “We are here today because of them and we can pay tribute to that. We believe the fans, along with the players will get behind the jersey.”

The Heritage Jerseys are available now from the Chiefs online store, check out all the 2019 Super Rugby jerseys here.

  1. Please…use this collar forever…or back to the collar oficina British Lions 2013….the all last jerseys look like a cheap soccer shirt

  2. To me, this comes across as featuring a union that is no longer part of the Chiefs (Counties) rather than taking the chance to wear the colours of current, consistent, smaller constituent unions like BOP.
