Review: Brumbies Rugby 2019 O’Neills 2019 Home & Away Shirts

The Brumbies have had a wealth of different kit suppliers over the years – from Kooga and Canterbury to Classic and ISC, but for the 2019 Super Rugby season, they’ll be welcoming a new name to Southern Hemisphere rugby union, in the shape of Irish brand O’Neills.

GAA and rugby league fans will be familiar with O’Neills, as will fans of Harlequins and London Irish, but this is the first pro team that the brand has taken on in Super Rugby, so it’s clearly a big moment for them.

As is probably sensible then, for their first Brumbies home shirt, they’ve kept things suitably classic, with a white and blue design with the all-important three gold bars across the chest and back.

Complete with the thicker gold panels around the shoulders and prominent blue side panels, it’s all really rather nice, though the way the main sponsor cuts through the gold stripes this year instead of slotting in below, as it did last year, is a real shame.

The away shirt continues the recent trend of having a primarily dark blue design, with white stripes across the chest (again largely obscured by the sponsor logo) and white trim.

There’s also an interesting diagonal striped pattern that runs across the body, while a nice splash of gold on the collar is a nice touch.

We’ve always quite enjoyed O’Neills designs, and this move into the Southern Hemisphere continues the blend of classic and more forward thinking jerseys.

Sponsor logos aside, it creates a pair of shirts that Brumbies fans will be able to get behind, while neutrals probably won’t mind them too much either…
