Wales Sevens have been on the fringes of the World Rugby Sevens series for some time now – despite being one of the competition’s core teams, and occasionally securing big scalps, the revolving nature of much of the Welsh squad means that they’ve never hit the heights of the likes of England or Scotland.
That being said, the one way in which the Welsh have stood out from the crowd in the last few years is with their incredibly striking and memorable jerseys. So a few years back we had the black and electric green number, and then last season the striking ‘movement’-inspired design was even more unique.
This year, the Dragons have gone for a rather on-the-nose jersey design, with the entire jersey being covered in black-accented cartoon dragon scales that are very similar to the WRU’s kiddy mascot, Scorch.
It’s a very striking and dynamic design – bold and brash yet unmistakably Wales, and when paired with Under Armour’s brand new jersey template, as seen with the 15s jerseys this year, it’s even better.
Wales might not be one of the top teams on the circuit this year, but they’ll be one of the best dressed.
