The Vodacom Bulls have revealed their brand new away shirt that the Pretoria-based franchise will wear throughout the 2018 Super Rugby season – and it’s definitely a shirt with a twist. The Bulls away shirts have generally been dark blue or punk in recent years, but this time around they’re going for a yellow jersey with green trim and blue shirts – so what gives?
In a rather unique and leftfield move, the Bulls’ 2018 away shirt is actually paying tribute to another Pretorian sporting institution – Mamelodi Sundowns FC. The Sundowns are one of South Africa’s most successful soccer teams and are known as ‘The Brazilians’ for the way their kit resembles the classic Seleção kit… and now so do the Bulls!
It’s a bit weird, to be honest, because the shirt is basically identical to the Sundowns’ home kit – a fact that’s helped by the fact that the Memelodi are also sponsored by Puma.
The Bulls will wear their 2018 away shirt when Super Rugby kicks off at the end of February, keep an eye on Rugby Shirt Watch for a review in the future.
