The Tonga Rugby Football Union have revealed the first fruits of their new partnership with Japanese apparel maker Mizuno to supply the Tongan national side.
Mizuno signed a deal to take over from Kukri, who supplied the Tongans at the 2015 Rugby World Cup, last year and marks the return of the brand into top level equipment supply after a long absence.
While Mizuno supplied various European clubs in the 1990s, and has kept a presence in rugby with a range of popular and widely used rugby boots, as well as supplying kit to several Japan Top League teams.
However, by moving into top flight kit supply with both Tonga and Romania, Mizuno follows fellow Japanese brands ASICS in establishing a visible presence in rugby ahead of Rugby World Cup 2019 in Japan.
The Tongan national side are expected to wear their brand new home shirt for the first time in their Pasifika Challenge test match against Wales tomorrow at Eden Park in New Zealand. Keep an eye out for our full review of the new Tonga shirt once images are available.
