While the three-test series is obviously the headline part of this year’s hugely anticipated British & Irish Lions tour to New Zealand, the occasion will also be a massive moment for the country’s five Super Rugby teams.
As part of the Lions’ preparation for the All Blacks, the Lions will take on all five of New Zealand’s Super rugby teams, and to mark the occasion, Adidas has created limited edition jerseys for them to wear.
The basic premise of all the new Special Edition jerseys is the same for all five teams, but fed through the prism of each team’s colours and region.
So, for this Blues jersey, we have the same blend of dark and electric blue that we loved so much on the current home jersey, but this time the design on the main body of the jersey is a distressed map design of the area of New Zealand that the Blues represent.
In addition the three areas of the provincial rugby unions that form the feeder system to the Blues – Auckland, North Harbour, and Northland – are highlighted on the map, while the right sleeve of the jersey features the Geographic latitude and longitude coordinates of Auckland, where the Blues will take on the Lions.
While the basic design of all five Special Edition jerseys is broadly similar, there’s just something about the use of colour on this one that really kicks it up to a higher level – it looks absolutely fantastic, and we’re sure the Blues’ players will be proud to wear a Gold Award-winning shirt for a truly historic game.
looks shithouse !
