The Bunnies faithful had to wait 43 years for a premiership, with Russell Crowe’s awesome squad of international stars finally bringing home the trophy in 2014 in a Grand Final demolition of the Bulldogs. Though they may have lost a few key players to union, retirement or other clubs, most notably Slammin’ Sam Burgess, there’s enough proven quality left in the shape of his younger brothers Tom and George, and the incomparably gifted Greg Inglis, to launch a quality defence of their title.
It’s hard to argue with their red and green palette and we’re such big fans of the Bunnies’ home jersey we’re glad it’s only been tweaked for the new season.
The sponsorship logos have switched around a little, and the bold claim of “The Pride of League” is inked into the neckline, but on the whole this is the same shirt they won the NRL with last year. Few would bet against them wearing it in the Grand Final again this term.
However, we preferred last year’s away jersey that substituted the black panels, trim and central logo for white.
It’s the same again this year, with the slim Delonghi logo substituted for a chunkier Fujitsu one and another a classy addition to this year’s ISC stable.
The Premiers are currently in the UK ready to face St Helens in the World Club Challenge when they’ll be sporting this special jersey. Sticking exclusively to red and green, with a chunky red stripe across the chest, red trim and no side panels, this simple design is arguably our favourite of the lot.
Glory, glory to South Sydney, indeed.
